Top trades by New Zealand Sharesight users — March 2025

Welcome to the March 2025 edition of Sharesight’s monthly trading snapshot for New Zealand investors, where we look at the top 20 trades made by New Zealand Sharesight users. Below we will look at the top trades overall, plus the top trades in individual stocks, which allows us to observe the broader investment trends by Sharesight users in New Zealand, while also giving us an opportunity to zoom into the most popular stocks and the market-moving news behind them.

This month, the top trades were strongly led by the Smartshares US 500 ETF (NZX: USF). Compared to the previous months, March was a weaker month for ETF trading, with only 7 of the top 20 trades consisting of ETFs. March marked a month of increased trading in US tech stocks, as well as stocks listed on the NZX.

This month’s top-traded stocks were led by Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT), which saw its share price hit a 52-week low during a challenging period for US tech stocks. The top trades were followed by NVIDIA (NASDAQ: NVDA), which recorded fluctuating share prices throughout March but largely continued on a downward trend, experiencing its most significant drawdown since 2022.
