5 ways Sharesight keeps your data safe

by Ben Clendon, Head of Product, Sharesight | Mar 5th 2024

From its inception, Sharesight has maintained a constant vigilance around cyber security. As a company that holds investment data for hundreds of thousands of customers, this vigilance is of course a given.

However, over the last couple of years we have really stepped up our security and compliance focus. We've done this in part as a proactive drive to stay ahead as much as is possible in an increasingly turbulent cyber security landscape, but also as a result of changing expectations from our partners and the community at large. High profile data breaches in recent years, particularly in Australia with the likes of Canva and Optus, have led to a shift in thinking and strategic planning around security.

For us, this has meant the recruitment of personnel dedicated to our security as well as an expansion in our tooling, training and more broadly a holistic look at our cyber security posture across our offices, workstations, infrastructure, personnel and more.

We are proud of the changes we have implemented over the last couple of years and have a clear vision of where we plan to be over the next couple. With that being said, here are five key ways that Sharesight keeps your data safe.

5 ways Sharesight keeps your data safe

1. You control access to your portfolio

Your Sharesight portfolio data belongs to you. You can share access to your portfolio with other people, but you retain sole control over who each portfolio is shared with and what access level they have. Sharesight customer support staff will only access your portfolio as expressly required to resolve a support matter that has been directly raised by you through one of our official support channels, and we retain detailed logs of all access to your account. Subject to our privacy policy, we don’t share your personal or financial information without your permission.

2. Secure authentication

You can access your Sharesight account using secure password authentication (which is independently audited) or login with a Google account via the Google Cloud Identity Platform. As an additional layer of security, you can also set up two-factor authentication (2FA).

3. Secure data storage and delivery

All data sent between you and our servers is encrypted using modern, industry-standard Transport Layer Security (TLS), and all data on our database servers is encrypted at rest. Sharesight’s servers are located in enterprise-grade data centres that employ numerous physical security measures including 24/7/365 monitoring and surveillance, on-site security staff and regular ongoing security audits.

4. Backups and disaster recovery

Sharesight has automated online backups that are updated throughout the day and stored in multiple secure locations around the world. Our hardware, networks and data centres employ multiple levels of redundancy. The system is also architected so that an issue with a component, server, or even an entire data centre will not cause a major problem and in most cases we can continue to operate with little to no disruption in service.

5. Regular independent security audits

Sharesight is independently audited to ensure that the IT security of our software meets best practice guidelines, is fit for purpose and meets the requirements of the business and its customers. The most recent audit was performed by ZX Security Limited in March 2023.
